Favorite Places in Barcelona

A list of my top five favorite spots in Barcelona that are a must see if you ever find yourself here.

1. La Sagrada Familia

La Sagrada Familia (The Sacred Family) is a must see if you ever travel to Barcelona, Spain. Sagrada Familia is the famous unfinished Roman Catholic Church. It was designed by Antoni Gaudi and began being built in 1882. It is still being built today and is not even half way done. They say it is going to be done by 2026, but many locals are skeptical and believe it will take much longer. This is one of my favorite spots because of the history and amazing arcitechture that is seen outside and within the church. There is also a small pond and park area next door that is the perfect spot to sit and wait for your ticket time or to have a picnic.

2. Barceloneta Beach

Barceloneta beach is one of the most well-known beaches in Barcelona. Because of this it is usually busy with tourist and locals spending time on the beach and getting tapas at the many bars lining sand. I like to spend my Sunday afternoons with a smoothie bowl and a good book sitting on the beach unwinding from my action packed weeks. If you're feeling more energized there are plenty of shops and street vendors to explore.

3. The Bunkers

This is probably my all time favorite spot in Barcelona. It is popular with tourists and the locals. The Bunkers is a 360 viewpoint of all of Barcelona. It is located on the top of Turo de la Rovira in the Carmel neighborhood and has a height of 262 meters. The view is priceless and sunset is the best time to go. Grab some friends, a bottle of wine and some snacks and find a spot at the top to enjoy the sunset over the city.

4. Plaza de Catalunya

Plaza de Catalunya is a large square in the middle of Barcelona. Many consider it to be the city center and where the old and new city meet. I am lucky enough to live only one block away from Plaza de Catalunya and get to spend a lot of time there. There are a million shops, resturaunts, and bars to choose from. If you aren't in the mood to do much, you can sit by the fountain and feed the many birds that hang out at the plaza.

5. Las Ramblas

This place is very touristy and not somewhere I spend a ton of time at but it is a must see when in Barcelona. Las Ramblas is the famous strip of road that starts at Plaza de Catalunya and runs all the way to the beach. My favorite thing to do is walk the whole strip and stop along the way at the different vendors lining the street. If you go with an empty stomach, you can stop at the Boqueria Market and try fresh produce from the different vendors. There is something for everyone in this large and colorful market.
